Coming Soon

Comments Off on Coming Soon

Hello. I have at least five blog posts swirling around in my head, but I don’t have time to sit down and work on them yet. I have to finish a project first. Hopefully, I’ll be able to post at least Blog #1 tomorrow.

Just wanted to let you know that we’re still here and thinking about you.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor…in Germany?

Every year, BFA has staff members that return home to the States (or Canada or wherever else home might be). The staff member might be leaving because they only made a one or two year commitment, or they might need to leave for health purposes, or they might not have enough support to remain on the field. BFA would love to have staff members stay for years and years, but that’s not always possible. So, when someone leaves, someone else needs to fill in.

Do you want to fill in? Do you have a passion for missions, or for helping Christians love Jesus more, or for Christian education? Because BFA is always in need of people who want to invest in missionary kids. And you don’t have to be a teacher. There’s pretty much a place for every kind of person with every kind of skill. I mean, we’re not teachers, and we’re going.

So, here are Black Forest Academy’s staff needs for the 2010-2011 school year.

So, It’s November, An Update

Comments Off on So, It’s November, An Update

Many of you are probably wondering whether we’ll be departing for Germany soon. Our goal has been to leave for BFA in October, and since it’s mid-way through November, you might be wondering where are we in all with all of this Germany business. In five words or less, we’re in Arkansas.

Right now, we have 20% of our support, which is the same amount we had at the end of September. 20% is actually a great amount to have after only a month or two of support raising, but it’s not great enough to get us to Germany right now. We need 80% of our monthly support in order to book tickets for Germany (are you tired of hearing me say that?), so we still need to raise 60% of our monthly support before we can make plans to head to Germany.

Obviously, we’re not ready to pack our bags at this point. We were hoping to be ready in October because BFA asked us to come as soon as we could. We also want to have as much time as possible with the students at BFA. Our situation is a little different from the normal missionary. Most missionaries raise support in 3/6/12/25 months and then leave for the field. Their ministries begin once they arrive. Our ministry is already happening. BFA is already in session. Students leave for Christmas in December. In June, the school year is over. Every day, we are literally loosing time with the students there.  Which makes me so sad! Sniff. Sniff.

So, what’s our plan now?

How to Pray

We greatly appreciate your prayers. They make a huge difference. Here are some things you can pray for over the next week.

Support – That God will bring 100% of our support in by October.
We’re at about 14% of our monthly support or $765. Now, not everyone has told us what they will be giving and not everyone has sent in their paperwork yet. So this is not an official number. We need 80% of our support in order to book tickets, but we would prefer to have 100%. We just found out that we will be living in an apartment one town over from Kandern, where the school is. This means we’ll need a car. At 80% of our budget, all of our living expenses are covered. At 100%, a car is covered. We are still praying that God will provide our support by the beginning of October, but it will definitely take a miracle!

Why BFA Is Awesome for Families

Comments Off on Why BFA Is Awesome for Families

We’ve spent a lot of time over the past few weeks sharing with people in Northwest Arkansas about BFA and why we’re so excited about going. On Sunday we shared with our church. As I was preparing, I realized how wonderful BFA is for missionary families. I think the idea of boarding school can be kind of difficult for some people. I know the first things that pop into my head when I think of boarding school are some rich parents who don’t want to deal with their children, so they send them away to boarding school. But that’s so not Black Forest Academy.

As I’ve read through parent testimonies about BFA, I’ve realized that there are so many reasons that missionary families might decide BFA is the best place for their kids. Here are a few.

The First, Real, Crazy Day

So today was pretty crazy. Dani woke up to a giant knock on the door! I answered the door and was reminded by a friend from the worship team at church that I was late. Our alarm hadn’t gone off. I was supposed to be at church at 7:30 am. He knocked at our door at 8. So needless to say, I was pretty frantic while getting a shower, clothes, my bass and heading to the church.

This Sunday was also the day that Dani and I were supposed to talk before our home church about what we will be doing in Germany. So we needed to get up. I was very happy that they sent someone to wake us up, but was also pretty upset at myself—ugh.

The Journey’s Path: Part 4

Comments Off on The Journey’s Path: Part 4

This is the last post about my decision for going to Germany, and the process that I went through. I’m sure there is alot more I could talk about, but these few posts were simply a way for me to share with you my journey. There will definitely be more about what Dani and I are both going through.

Through Their Own Eyes

I love this video. It’s Black Forest Academy students expressing what the school has meant to them. It really gives you an idea of what missionary kids deal with and how BFA affects their lives. I hope this helps you understand why we want to invest in these students. This video was created by Michele Phoneix. She has been teaching at Black Forest Academy for 16 years and first came to BFA as a student.
